We Are Not Alone
I haven't been by in a couple of months but I recently heard on a mailing list that AdultFanFiction.Net is having a problem. AFF.Net is the home of the largest collection of X rated fan fiction on the planet as far as I know. There are beautiful love stories and exciting adventure stories there with erotic scenes as well as out and out PWP porn. If it was too racy for the other sites it's probably posted there. They have a bunch of R rated stuff too.
The problem is that in order to house this vast collection they recently needed to move to a new server and they are having problems getting back on line because they are taking an estimated 150,000 hits PER HOUR and it's overloading the server.
Think about it. In one hour's time one hundred and fifty thousand people all had the idea to go visit this one site and read some hentai fanfic. That's 3,600,000 hits per day. Woah.
Okay granted there have to be some repeats there, the same person will try several times throughout the day to get in, but still...

If anybody else reading this ever saw a mimeographed fanzine and felt a rush of joy that someone else liked speculating about other people's characters did you ever imagine that one day there would be enough fanfic writers and fans to generate 3,600,000 of anything? And the idea that it would be on a global computer network was pure SF. Something out of Legion of Superheros.
We've come a long way.
Oh, and if you were thinking about checking them out AFF.Net would appreciate it if you could hold your curiosity about them until things quiet down a bit. You won't get on right now anyway. 3,600,000 other people had the same idea.
